BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE TRANSNATIONAL ACTION PLAN Cult In Tour

Cultintour Horizontal

The Transnational Cooperation Project (TCP) ‘Cult In Tour’ concerns the transnational cooperation between Greece and Poland, with the Polish LAG “BiałowieżaForest” as the coordinating partner. The object of the cooperation is to undertake actions to interconnect the rich cultural and natural resources of the areas of application of the TCP with their offered tourist product, focusing on the less touristically developed areas of mainland Chalkidiki.

The two areas are characterized by High cultural attractiveness, Untapped or exploited latent tourist potential and Sights that belong to the UNESCO Cultural Heritage List, while in both cases, the way in which the resources are used is different.

On the one hand, in the “Bialowieza Forest” (one of the largest surviving parts of the virgin forest that once covered the European plain, with a large population of bison located on the Polish-Belarusian border) which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a National Park, the protected area and the adjacent towns are used mainly as natural values and to a lesser extent as cultural resources, presenting very low social activity.

On the other hand, in the Pre-Athos region, the fact that it is an entrance to Mount Athos – a UNESCO World Heritage Site – has contributed over time to the building base of the cultural, economic and social identity of the region.

The general objective of the TCP is to achieve sustainable tourism development of selected and high-value natural and cultural resources of each region, through the activation of the most dynamic groups of local societies, such as, among others, school-age youth as well as Cultural and Creative Industry (CCI) businesses.

The beneficiaries from the implementation of the Plan are expected to be local entrepreneurs from all sectors of the local economy, especially tourism, young people, secondary school students, executives of local government authorities, executives of collective sectoral representation organizations, as well as residents.
